A further survey was undertaken in Rotuma in March 2017 to determine and record the various requests for assistance. The survey saw an increase in requests compared to previous surveys which could be attributed to more awareness of the work of the Foundation.
The annual fund raising golf tournament and evening function in October have become more popular with record registrations for the tournament and sold out tickets for the evening dinner and dance function.
The attached Newsletter 2017 provides a brief account of the assistance provided including acquisition and distribution based on the house-to-house survey conducted in March.
We look forward to another year with the annual main fundraiser being held on Saturday 6 October 2018 in Nadi; the Rotuma Golf Day and the Dinner and Dance in the evening. Further details will be posted as it comes to hand.

Newsletter 1/2016
2015 was again a year filled with activities not only with the annual fundraising event but also in out-reach and response to queries and requests for assistance. The attached Newsletter 2016 shares some of the year’s highlights and we look forward to another successful year in 2016.
The annual Rotuma Golf Day was held on Saturday 3 October 2015 with 76 people taking to the course. The day raised over $10,000 for the Foundation.
In June 2015 the Foundation conducted a house-to-house survey to identify those who may need assistance. About 58 Request for Assistance forms were filled and submitted for consideration.
The items approved for distribution included (Wheelchairs, walking frames, walking sticks, blankets, radios, bicycle, diapers, urinals). Also, grocery packs to 42 families were approved for distribution in December 2015. Below, see some of the photos showing the distribution of items and grocery packs in Rotuma.
The Trustees also agreed to make a donation of $5,000 to the Fiji Red Cross to assist with the provision of relief to the communities in Fiji following Tropical Cyclone Winston in February 2016.
We look forward to see you all at the major fundraising event on Saturday 1 October 2016 at the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club for the Rotuma Golf Day and the Bombay Lodge Restaurant and Bar for the evening function.

Response to the Foundation’s fund raising effort in October 2013 overwhelming.
The funds raised at the Rotuma Golf Day in October 2013 allowed the Foundation to embark on its next mission to Rotuma before the end of the 2013.
16 teams of four players took to the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club golf course on a sunny Saturday morning 5th October, not so much to win the best prizes but more to have fun and to catch up on old and also making new acquaintances, all for a good cause.
Players came from as far as Canada, US, Australia and New Zealand, not to mention the avid local golfers of varying handicaps, all queuing up for registration and keen to be teeing off.
Also, support from non-players, all prizes for the winners (and losers) were donated and the 18 holes all had sponsors, most were from Rotumans and friends residing overseas. A few have been hole sponsors every year since the inaugural golf event in 2011. About $10,000 had been raised during the day.
An island night evening of feasting and dancing was held which went well into the night.
The Second Mission & Assistance Rendered
Grocery packs for 22 individuals and families who were identified to receive assistance in time for Christmas were assembled. The grocery packs were all identical and each pack contained basic food items as follows: 4kg rice, 2tins corned beef, 2tins fish, 1bottle cooking oil, 1pkt. Matches, 4kg sugar, 4kg flour, 2pkt. Biscuit, 4pkt. Sweet biscuit, 1bottle jam, 5pack noodle and 2tins tuna.
Ongoing
Application for Assistance forms continues to be distributed to those seeking assistance and more requests have been received for items such as wheelchairs, bed pans and diapers.
The next fund raising golf tournament has been scheduled for Saturday the 4th October of 2014 to be held at the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club at Denarau Island in Nadi, Fiji.
We look forward to seeing you there. Help us to Help our communities.

THE FOUNDATION’S FIRST CHARITY MISSION TO ROTUMA – 7th JUNE 2013
A survey carried out by the Department of Social Welfare revealed that more than 4% of the population in Rotuma was registered as needing welfare assistance.
The Foundation which was registered in September 2012 has a primary aim to assisting communities in Rotuma and the wider community in Fiji that are affected by poverty, who are disabled & handicapped, aged or infirm and widows & orphans.
Prior to registration, fundraising efforts had already begun with the inaugural golf tournament at the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club, Nadi, Fiji in August 2011 and the second golf event in September 2012.
A list of names of individuals who required assistance was identified and equipment and other items were purchased including: wheelchairs, walking frames, walking sticks, cartons of diapers, bed pans, mackintosh sheets and reading glasses. Also there were requests for children’s school fees for eleven children whose fees were paid by the Foundation.
Applications for Assistance Form have been circulated further and it is the Foundation’s intention to reach out to as many people as possible. Further success will occur through future fundraising events.
